1) Primary sport (s): Ultrarunning
2) Team member since: 2007
3) City/state of residence: Asheville, North Carolina
4) Occupation: Counselor at Warren Wilson College
5) Goals for 2011: Have as many adventures in the mountains as possible! This summer I plan to run 550 miles on the AT across Virginia. Also, to better my 24 Hour PR and to represent the U.S. at the IAU 24h World Championship in Katowice, Poland.
6) Notable achievements/memories/PR’s in your sport: 9-time National Champion in distances from Trail Marathon to 100km Road; 6-time member of U.S. 100km team; 2005 Silver Medalist at IAU 100km World Cup; Female record holder at SB6K (co-held with Rebekah Trittipoe and Jenny Anderson) and Foothills Trail.
7) Favorite inov-8 gear: I love the lightweight performance shoes, espcially the X-Talon 190 and the Road 233. The Recolites are awesome for kicking around in.
8) List one thing others may not know about you: I am almost as obsessed with knitting as I am trail running. Also, I love to bake and eat sweets of all sorts.
9) Favorite energy drink/food: Hooney Stinger products – especially the chews and waffles.
10) Your favorite race/event and why? This is constantly changing. I seem to excel on the roads, especially the longer events, but after too much pounding the pavement I find myself craving the trails. I’ve raced everything from flat 5km’s to trail 100’s. At this point in my running life I am drawn to the solitary adventure of attempting FKT’s on long mountain trails.
11) Advice to other athletes: Do what you love! Never lose your passion for the sport, and mix things up to keep it fresh. However, if you have specific goals, it is important to develop a training plan and stick with it. Finding a good combination of routine and spontaneity will help you stay in the sport for the long haul.
