DeWayne Satterfield has now won at least 1 ultra race for 17 years in a row with his dominating performance Saturday at the Black Warrior 50k. DeWayne threw down an impressive 3:54 time and won going away with his nearest competitor 25 minutes behind him. Eric Charette grabbed 5th place in a stacked field for the 25k with a time of 1:51.
Amy Lane (pictured) won the Moby Dick 7.3 mile Snowshoe Race in 1:16:21 on Saturday and then went on to win the Halocksville Orchard 3.7 Mile Snowshoe race on Sunday in 28:14. Not to be out done, Jim Johnson had a double victory this weekend as well. On Saturday Jim won the Horsehill 7k Snowshoe Race in 27:07, then on Sunday he won the Halocksville Orchard 3.7 miler in 22:24. Jim's triple racing plans for the weekend were cut short due to a lack of snow for the Moonlight Snowshoe Race Saturday night.

Lots of Inov-8 runners snowshoe racing. What shoes do you all like for that? Just curious. Also, what snowshoes (if I may ask)?
Saw Joe Gray is on the list for the World Snowshoe Invit. next week. What do you fast folks where ?
fwiw, I (slow, not racing) have been using the roclite 318 gtx (with mini-gaiters) for a couple years, but this year switched to the 288gtx. Gtx mostly for keeping cold air (and powder) from penetrating the mesh.
thanks and good luck Joe.
Dogrunner,
I wear the Dion 121 racing snowshoes with the deep cleat. This is definitely the best shoe that I have worn. I am not direct mounted this season and the F-Lite™ 320 PK is probably my favorite. If I was going to race, I would probably direct mount my old pair of 250s. I steer away from the GTX models myself because my legs tend to get pretty wet and my shoes get wet from the inside out so it is more important for me to have a shoe that can breath.
I also use the Dion snowshoes (with deep cleat) for my races and for training (so long as the trail is packed/groomed, it's not great for breaking trail in).
As for shoes, I switch depending on if the race is short or long, and if there is deep powder or not. For the short races on groomed trails then I will use my 265s. For the longer races or where there is some powder to slog through I prefer to use the GTX shoes and use a low-profile gator to keep snow off my socks and out of my shoes. My feet might still be a bit wet with this approach by the end of the race (especially if it's over an hour), but I think that is unavoidable.
I have found that when I'm out training or in most of these races, there is a stream crossing (and this winter, sometimes puddles). I've found that I tend to use my GTX shoes more often than not. They also keep my feet a bit warmer than the ventilated shoes.
Just wanted to add that with Jim Johnson's win in the WMAC race on Sunday, he has officially sealed his victory in the Dion WMAC Snowshoe Series. Great job Jim! :)
The folks doing the Mitchell 40 Challenge this weekend could use your skills Amy and Jim. Nice job out there both of you.
