Spring, what a wonderful time, even if its a plane ride away. Two of the team members from Team Rubicon-Inov-8 Adventure Racing headed off from snow covered Idaho to the warm Oregon cost. Hagg Lake 50K is the kick off race to the Oregon Trail Ultramarathon Race Series (http://www.oregontrailseries.org/) and for our team the first test of endurance for the season. This race is notorious for long thick mud sections but reports had the trial pretty dry, for Oregon standards. For Idaho standard we still found a fair bit of mud but my Roclite 285s performed great. I don’t recall slipping once and the tread cleared mud quickly when conditions went from mud hole to marsh grass. I had a smile on my face every time I approached a mud section and could see slip marks and skid tracks. I would pass through and wonder if they tried to slip on purpose?
I had a strong finish with my second loop 10 minutes faster then the first. At the finish line we were able to make some new friends and an opportunity to spread the word about Inov-8 over some great tasting soup. For a couple adventure racers we enjoyed the ultramarathon thing. Now if they could just make it 20 hours longer and add some biking and boating in the middle! Thanks to Stacey and Ronda for a well organized race.
